Home Trends (Dining Room/Garage)

With every passing year comes new trends that influence the way the interiors of homes are designed. 2025 is no different, with certain styles falling out of favor with others taking the stage. This article is the final of a three-part series where we will take a look at some of the popular styles becoming fashionable in today’s real estate landscape. Today we will be exploring dining room and garage design trends.

Dining Room Trends

Whether it is formal or more casual, a dining room provides a place where food is eaten, conversations are had, and memories are made. The setting in which you eat can impact how much enjoyment is gained from eating. In 2025, many different styles of dining rooms are becoming popular; you may be able to find inspiration from these ideas.

Blending Vintage & Modern

A dining room should be a place of comfort and class. It’s somewhere where people eat regularly or host gatherings. Mixing styles from different eras is a great way to create a visually dynamic space that feels timeless, yet modern. When mixing design elements from different decades, start with a vintage statement piece. Building a design around this piece is the best way to strike a balance and ensure all elements mesh with one another. Choosing an item prominently featured in the room, such as the chairs, table, or lighting fixtures, is a good place to start.

Multi-Functional Furniture

There are many different ways that furniture in a dining room can provide multiple purposes, turning your dining room into a practical space used for eating and more. Bench seating can double as storage space, with compartments that can hold kitchen appliances. Dining tables are versatile as well, with some having the ability to extend to accommodate additional guests. Others come with built-in drawers or cabinets, which can store dishware and silverware. Purchasing comfortable chairs is helpful too, as they can be moved to and used in other rooms of the house.

Incorporating the Outdoors

While fully-outdoor eating areas exist, a new trend involves integrating elements of both indoor and outdoor eating areas, creating a unique dining space in the middle ground. By utilizing large sliding glass doors, bi-fold windows, and furniture built with natural materials, your dining room will feel more connected to the outdoor world. Connecting the dining space to a patio or garden elevates this effect. If you want to move your dining room furniture outdoors, invest in weather-resistant chairs and tables that will protect them from the elements.

Unique Tables

Uniquely-shaped tables are becoming increasingly popular as many people search for an alternative to the standard rectangular one. Tables in different shapes, such as a circle, oval, or even a triangle are becoming more common as people add personality to their dining rooms. Asymmetrical tables are another option, which can create an eccentric centerpiece in a dining room. If purchasing a non-rectangular table, it’s important to make sure it comfortably fits in your dining room space and suits your needs. A person may want a circular table because they enjoy being able to see everyone at the table at once, but it may not fit well in their dining room space.  Choosing a table that fits your space while meeting your dining needs is critical when purchasing a non-rectangular table.

Statement Pieces

Whether it be artwork on the wall or a chandelier illuminating the table, having a statement art piece overlook your dining table is a great way to showcase your style and personality. A large painting on the wall will command attention, so balancing it with the room’s colors and style will ensure the artwork suits the dining room. Statement pieces are meant to be captivating, but not overpower every other element in the room. A chandelier is another example of one that can take many shapes and styles. From minimalistic geometric designs to ornate crystal pieces, an elegant chandelier is a stylish way to spruce up a dining room.

Garage Trends

A garage is a versatile room. Whether it’s primarily used for storage or turned into an at-home workshop, the room is more than a parking spot for a vehicle. Like any other room in your home, it is versatile and customizable with a lot of potential. These trends may inspire you to upgrade your garage!

Utilizing Natural Light

Many modern-day garage doors have small windows in them that allow for a small amount of natural light to enter into the garage, but the amount is minimal. In recent years, garage doors with large windows that allow a greater amount of light inside are becoming more popular. These garage doors have large panels of sturdy tempered glass that can be customized to your liking. Options for the type of glass include clear, frosted, tinted and more, giving you the ability to choose how much light enters your garage and how private it is. New, high-tech versions of these garage doors even have the ability to change the windows’ opacity with the click of a button!

Smart Technology

Smart devices make your garage high-tech, which can save you time and make your life easier. If you often forget to close the garage door after leaving home, purchasing a smart garage door switch would be helpful. It connects to an app on your mobile phone and you can control your garage door from anywhere in the world. If parking in your garage is a tight fit, sensors can be installed that notify you if your car is safely inside, making parking a breeze. Lastly, motion-activated lights can be programmed to illuminate the garage once you enter, which can be helpful if you’re unable to use the light switch.

Ultra-Durable Flooring

Garage flooring is an under-looked aspect of a garage that if improved, can make the space more practical and sleeker-looking. Concrete slabs and epoxy coatings are two common garage floor surfaces, but are susceptible to damage and fading. The premium alternative to these types of flooring is called polyaspartic flooring. Polyaspartic flooring is the highest-end garage floor sealant, maintaining its original condition better than any other garage floor surface. It is extremely durable and resistant to stains and scratches, turning a standard garage into a luxury room. It can be applied in a variety of temperature and weather conditions, and takes considerably less time to apply than an epoxy coating. The color can also be customized to fit your style!

Multi-Purpose Space

Garages don’t only need to be for car and equipment storage. This room has a lot of potential to be turned into a practical area due to its tall ceilings and open space. From a mini at-home movie theater to an arcade, many garages have been turned into recreational areas. The space is versatile, and many homeowners have taken advantage of this, turning it into a personalized multi-purpose room. A game room, at-home bar, beauty salon, and at-home gym are just a few ideas homeowners have turned into reality. Garage space is highly customizable, and the ability to move items through the garage doors makes moving larger items easier.

Practical Storage

A garage can feel like a large space when empty, but can fill up fast when you start storing your belongings. On top of that, you want to save some room for your vehicle, drastically reducing the amount of storage space available. For this reason, creative and practical solutions have been invented to maximize your garage’s storage space. Overhead racks are great for storing large items that remain unused for longer periods of time, such as ladders, holiday decorations, and seasonal equipment. Pegboards are a cheap option for wall storage, allowing you to customize where and how you store items. Lastly, there are pre-made storage organizing systems that are designed to maximize the amount of storage you get in a small space.
