Home Trends (Kitchen/Office)

With every passing year comes new trends that influence the way the interiors of homes are designed. 2025 is no different, with certain styles falling out of favor with others taking the stage. This article is the first of a three-part series where we will take a look at some of the popular styles becoming fashionable in today’s real estate landscape. Today we will be exploring kitchen and office designs trends.

Kitchen Trends

The average American spends over 400 hours a year in the kitchen, with many spending more. With that much time spent there a year, having a stylish kitchen that meets your needs will make that time more enjoyable. The following styles are 2025 trendsetters that may inspire you to redesign your kitchen.

English-Style Kitchens

Known for its cozy design, English-style kitchens feature rich wood cabinets paired with darker, moodier paint colors. This is often matched with natural countertop materials such as butcher’s block and soapstone to create a welcoming and comfortable space. This emphasis on color and variety is a shift from the popular modern designs that opt for neutral colors and a minimalistic design. The style is also known for its functionality, as floor-to-ceiling cabinetry is a staple in its design.

Retro-Comeback

As kitchen design begins to shift away from a modern, minimalistic style, retro elements that were popular in the past are finding their way back into peoples’ homes. While it’s not a full shift to the style of the 1950s and 1970s, modern designers are pulling inspiration from these decades as they look to modernize older furnishing. Unique colors and bold fixtures are regaining popularity as homeowners look to pay homage to retro eras. Unlacquered metal handles for cabinetry will age over time and can give a kitchen a lived-in feel. Vintage lighting fixtures and warm lighting will also give a kitchen a retro feel.

Burst of Color

From cabinets to backsplashes, kitchen elements are becoming more colorful as homeowners look to personalize their space. The most popular colors at the moment are green, blue, and brown, cool colors that don’t overpower the other aspects of the kitchen. These nature-inspired color choices are becoming trendier than the whites and grays that have become popular in recent years. Some homeowners also are opting for bold color choices, painting cabinetry yellow or red for example.

Contrasting Design

A great way to highlight a design element is to make it stand out from the other ones. This can be done in a multitude of ways, from using different materials to dissimilar paint colors. Whether it’s brass with metal or wood with glass, mixing textures and materials creates variety. Unique elements can also spice up your kitchen, such as a stylish light fixture or colorful backsplash.

Office Trends

With the rapid rise of remote work in the past half decade, home offices are becoming increasingly important for homeowners. More time than ever is being spent working from home, and in turn, in the office. Because of this, the office should be a comfortable place to spend many hours a day. Following these trends can increase your focus and productivity with at-home work.

Biophilic Elements

Remote work can feel restricting as you spend most of your day inside, not interacting with the outside world. This is why biophilic design, or design that incorporates natural elements such as plants and sunlight, is becoming popular. This can create a calming work environment that is less stifling and more connected to nature. Large windows, natural lighting, and houseplants are components that will create a more biophilic office space.

Integrated Technology

As technology gets more advanced, your home office should too. Voice-controlled technology is already popular, and many household electronics can be controlled by using an Amazon Alexa or Google Home device. They can adjust lights, turn on a coffee maker, close curtains, and much more. Adjustable desks are also a great way to add variety to the work day, as they can move a workspace up and down, creating sitting and standing time. If you don’t like indoor plants, an automated air purifier will maintain good air quality.. With technology, you can be more efficient while working and make your office an efficient workspace.

Comfortable Workspace

It is likely that you will be sitting at your desk for multiple hours each day. Why not make that space the most comfortable it can be? An ergonomic desk chair that caters to you and your body will be the best for long sitting hours. Foot rests can be a great way to stretch out your legs and a monitor stand can ensure your eyes and neck are in a natural position when using the computer. If you are restless when sitting for extended periods of time, an under-desk elliptical can help you stay active while seated.

Soundproofing

It’s likely that you want your office to be a quiet and peaceful place, but outside sources can prevent that from happening. Construction, garbage trucks, and dogs barking are just a few of the many distractions that can throw off your headspace. To drown out these sounds, installing sound-absorbant wall panels or curtains will reduce the amount of sound permeating its way into your workspace. An added bonus of installing soundproofing is that it will also reduce the amount of sound leaving your office. Noise-cancelling headphones are another option, and are portable as well.

Although these trends are almost guaranteed to shift in the future, it is interesting to look at what styles are becoming popular in 2025. In our next blog in this series, we will be taking a look at bedroom and bathroom design trends.
